Newport is a beautiful and picturesque town in county Mayo on the shores of Clew Bay approcimately 7 miles from Westport and 11 miles from Castlebar. The Brown Oak river splits the town in two and can be crossed by the road bridge or the spectacular 7 arch bridge, known locally as the viaduct. St. Patrick's, Newport's church, has some beautiful stanined glasswork of the Last Judgement completed by Harry Clarke in 1930.

Also situated approximately 2 miles from the town is Burrishoole Abbey, a beautiful ruin which was founded in 1470, and a little further on you will discover Gráínne O'Malley's Rockfleet Castle.

The town is home to amenities including a large supermarket, a number of shops and newsagents two award winning butchers, including the famous Kelly's Butchers who specialise in black and white puddings. There are also a number of other watering holes in the town apart from the Black Oak Inn.

Fishing charter boats are also available from the town as well as bicycle hire should you want to cycle on the Greenway.
